Why are our prices increasing this year

We could have raised prices without mentioning it to you.
Five euros more on a product, sometimes ten, in the end, it’s not a big deal.
Honestly, you probably wouldn’t have noticed. And anyway, it’s just how it is: "we have no choice."

But no.
In fact, that’s not at all how we operate or conceive our relationship with you, our clients.
We prefer to explain what’s really happening within our company.

Number 01

Our workshops in Portugal

Since the founding of Pied de Biche, our shoes are crafted in Portugal. And the country has experienced several wage increases, one after the other, over the past two years.
Of course, all our raw material suppliers are affected.
Of course, they had no choice but to pass these cost increases on to their selling prices.

Our workshop managers, Paulo, Eurico, José Carlos, Fernando, to name a few, had no choice but to pass on these increases in material costs as well as the rise in labor costs. And that’s normal. We have no choice…

So naturally, we discuss this with our suppliers. We try to find solutions, to manage the increases. But we cannot question the rise in artisans’ wages; it is more than justified.

• An inflation of +2.6% in 2021 in Portugal

Unfortunately, these increases do not bolster our margins—in fact, quite the opposite.
On the contrary, we are working on them, just as we have since the creation of Pied de Biche, to offer you our craftsmanship in all its splendor, at the fairest possible price. And that, that is non-negotiable.

Let’s talk about prices

Our Billy sneakers

For example, our iconic Billy Sneakers will increase from 140 to 145 euros. The leather we use still comes from Faeda, an Italian tanner. The sole is always made of natural rubber (sometimes also recycled rubber).
It is manufactured just a few kilometers from our workshop. We continue to use a Strobel construction, a lateral stitch, full-grain cowhide lining, laces made from GOTS-certified organic cotton, and a FSC-certified cardboard box…

And finally...

A consistently high-quality craftsmanship

Meanwhile, we are undertaking a monumental effort to continuously improve quality. Constantly. How to refine assembly. How to strengthen the fit at the foot. How to enhance the long-term hold of the sole... And all this work is scaled up and applied to all our manufacturers on a daily basis.

Because quality is our reason for being. It is our promise to you, and there is no question of compromising it. On the contrary, with each collection, we enhance our quality and perfect our products.
