Maintenance

How to care for my smooth leather shoes?
+

Like all leather varieties, your smooth leather shoes require careful and loving maintenance. We recommend regularly brushing your shoes to remove dust and dirt. After this step, massage the leather with a cloth soaked in Pied de Biche care cream. This will deeply nourish the leather—a true elixir of youth! Let them dry for at least an hour, then polish with a soft brush or cloth to remove any surface-dried cream and bring out the shine of your shoes. To protect the leather and enhance its luster, as well as to safeguard your footwear, apply a small amount of shoe polish matching your leather color. As with the care cream, apply the polish using a soft cloth, let it dry, then buff with a gentle brush! Remember that each shoe polish color should have its own dedicated brush. Finally, protect everything with Pied de Biche, an imperméabilizer, to prevent stains.

How do I care for my oiled leather shoes?
+

Oiled leather is treated with oil to better resist water. More durable than its counterparts, it also requires less maintenance and care. It's quite simple, then. Use seal oil (applied with a soft cloth), or better yet, an revitalizing oil spray that will condition, soften, and waterproof your oiled leather! Spray in small bursts from about fifteen centimeters away from the shoe. You can also restore shine to your leather by regularly applying a small amount of polish in the right color with a soft cloth. Let it dry, then buff with a soft brush. You can protect everything with Pied de Biche, to prevent stains and dirt.

How to care for my pull-up leather shoes?
+

Pull-up leather is a type of oily, full-grain leather. Unlike regular leather, pull-up lightens when stretched and, once relaxed, returns to its original color! For maintenance, treat it as you would any oily leather: apply seal or mink oil using a soft cloth, or better yet, use a revitalizing oil spray that conditions, softens, and waterproofs your leather! Spray in light, even bursts from about fifteen centimeters away from the shoe. You can also restore shine by regularly applying a small amount of high-quality polish with a soft cloth. Let it dry, then buff with a soft brush. Finish by protecting the leather with Pied de Biche, to prevent stains.

How to care for my suede-velvet / nubuck shoes?
+

Suede-velvet, also known as Daim, and Nubuck are often perceived as delicate materials. Yet, they are more durable than you might think if you take proper care of them. The basic rule is to regularly waterproof your shoes, starting from the moment you receive them! This will prevent stains and dirt from setting in, and water from damaging the leather.

We recommend brushing your Suede-velvet or Nubuck shoes regularly with a soft brush to remove dust and inevitable dirt. Remember to repeat this process before and after the following steps. To refresh your shoes, you can use an evenly sprayable cleaning spray. Ideally, let them dry for at least an hour before wearing them again. A leather revitalizing spray can also be applied if your leather looks tired. It will restore color to your shoes while providing protection.

If you accidentally stain your shoes, don't panic! There are miracle solutions such as suede erasers that will make even the smallest stain disappear. You'll see, it's magic! For persistent dirt, highly effective shampoos for Daim and Nubuck are available commercially. They will give your shoes a new lease on life.

Should I have a heel pad installed to protect my leather sole?
+

The answer is YES! Your natural leather sole is flexible, stylish, and comfortable. However, sole leather is a delicate material that can wear out quickly: it’s advisable to protect it by adding heel pads (and possibly metal tips for more durable protection). The heel pad helps shield the sole from wear and moisture, protects the Blake stitch construction, and significantly improves grip!

Pied de Biche ships most of its pairs with temporary heel pads, so you can enjoy them right upon receipt!
